Santa Barbara filmfest to screen 3 Iranian shorts

The Santa Barbara Int’l Film Festival in the US is to screen 3 Iranian shorts.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival in the US has been scheduled to screen three Iranian short titles.

‘Malakout’ by Farnoush Abedi, ‘Identibye’ by Sajjad Shahhatami, and ‘Shadow of the Fox’ by Noushin Meraji are the short titles by three Iranian filmmakers to go on screen at the 36th edition of the US event.

The 10-minute ‘Malakout’ that goes on screen at the Animated Shorts section is an award-winning animation about a piano player who tries to bring his wife back to life. The deal awakens the devil inside him.

“Music was his passion. Love was his masterpiece,” a synopsis for ‘Malakout’ reads.

The short film garnered two awards at the Florida Animation Festival in the US.

The animation also received an honorary diploma at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland and the best animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival in the UK.

The 11-minute ‘Shadow of the Fox’ is about Shahram whose wife has left him while dealing with a terrible mental crisis. He must try to answer his teenage daughter’s questions.

‘Identibye’ tells the story of a man who faces a dilemma regarding his innermost feelings. He must decide that one's true identity is what matters most.

Meanwhile, ‘Shadow of the Fox’ and ‘Identibye’ will vie at the International Shorts section of the SBIFF.

The SBIFF is a venue for independent films to be showcased and a chance for filmmakers to educate themselves, as the event offers many free educational programs.

The 36th edition of the event is slated for March 31-April 10, 2021.
